From the Lawrence Daily World for June 11, 1910: “J. D. Bowersock at last yielded to the solicitation of his friends and today permitted petitions to be circulated to place him in nomination as a candidate for the legislature subject to the votes of the Republicans at the primaries. Mr. Bowersock is too well known to need any introduction. He has served the people of the city as Mayor and was the congressman from the Second district as long as he cared to hold that office…. The farmers living west of Barker school house, about seven miles northwest of the city, got together Thursday morning and with the help of the hounds belonging to Deskins and Seetin were able to get the scalps of seven wolves from one-half to three-fourth grown. Several of the wolves were caught within a hundred yards of C. A. Richards hog lot and if left alone would probably have dined frequently upon young pork during the summer.”
