Leni Salkind

Leni Salkind

Age: 63.

Hometown: Jersey City, N.J.

Time in Lawrence: Since 1973 – 37 years.

Occupation: Ceramics artist.

Sign: Aries.

What were you doing when scouted? Going to La Prima Tazza.

How would you describe your style? In the studio, all I wear are jeans. Other times, I wear comfortable items, with a twist – not too tailored, not too preppy.

What are your favorite fashion trends? Natural clothing shapes, scarves and hats.

What are your least favorite fashion trends? Clothing that doesn’t fit properly, and women who dress like their teenage daughters. I like when older women dress age-appropriately but not stuffy.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence? Shoes stores that offer a wider range of shoe types and people who dress up more.

What would you like to see less of in Lawrence? Fewer bars/restaurants on Massachusetts Street – more boutique shops and individually owned stores downtown, because the balance is getting a bit out-of-whack.

People say I look like: My daughter, Sara.

Tell us a secret: I had no idea that running for school board was so political, and that was quite a lesson.

Skirt: Lilith, New York City, 2007.

Shoes: Dansko, Footprints, 2008.

Ring: Diane’s Artisan Gallery, 2009.
