Letter to editor lends insight to thinking of Obama’s nominee for U.S. Attorney in Kansas

? While Barry Grissom awaits confirmation as U.S. attorney for Kansas, recently released documents offer clues to his thinking on civic and legal issues.

In a 1995 letter to The Kansas City Star, Grissom urged conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh to be responsible in practicing their craft. He wrote that their programs foster the intolerance, disrespect and hatred that he said led to the Oklahoma City bombing.

Grissom is a Democrat from Overland Park. President Barack Obama nominated him in April to become the top federal prosecutor in Kansas.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has not yet scheduled a hearing on his confirmation.
