Lawrence Cactus 18-U baseball team starts 2-2

The Lawrence Cactus, an 18-and-under baseball team, opened the summer going 2-2 at the Golden Giants Invitational over the weekend in Topeka.

The Cactus lost two games to the Topeka Capitals, 4-3 and 6-1, on Sunday. They defeated the K.C. Braves, 4-2 on Friday, and routed the Topeka Expos, 16-1 on Saturday.

Ryan Scott earned the victory against the Braves, pitching five innings and giving up two runs. Taylor Gentry finished the final two innings.

Tanner Kilmer pitched all five innings in the run-rule shortened game against the Topeka Expos.

Drew Noble pitched well against the Capitals in the first game, going six innings and giving up only one earned run, but he took the loss.

The Cactus will open their home schedule at 6 p.m. today against the Topeka Golden Giants at Ice Field.

Lawrence is coached by Wilson Kilmer, who coached the Lawrence Raiders legion baseball team last summer.
