Former LHS teacher, now teaching in Olathe, honored for excellence in science teaching
A Lawrence resident and former Lawrence High School science teacher has received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Bruce Wellman is now teaching chemistry and engineering chemistry at Olathe Northwest High School. He won the award after being nominated by a friend and going through an extensive application process.
President Barack Obama named 103 recipients of the award.
The winners receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation to use at their discretion, in addition to a trip to Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony and several days of educational and celebratory events.
