Kendall lifts Royals

? Jason Kendall had three hits and three RBIs to help Bruce Chen and the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers, 7-3, on Friday night.

Scott Podsednik went 2-for-3 and scored three times for the Royals, who finished with 13 hits. David DeJesus drove in two runs.

Chen (2-0) gave up two runs and four hits in five-plus innings to earn his first win as a starter since Aug. 6. Chen made his second start after 10 relief appearances.

Chen walked Magglio Ordonez and gave up a single to Miguel Cabrera before being replaced by Kyle Farnsworth. Brennan Boesch, who leads all rookies with 25 RBIs, hit Farnsworth’s first pitch over the wall in right to cut Kansas City’s lead to 4-3.

The Royals responded with three runs in the bottom half. Podsednik singled in Alberto Callaspo with two out, and Kendall followed with a base hit to right.
