A 17-year-old rural Lawrence resident was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after an accident near the Clinton Lake Dam.
Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical crews responded to the crash around 9:30 a.m.
According to sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Steve Lewis, teenager Franklin Johnson was driving a 1989 Toyota Corolla north on County Road 458 when he struck the back of a pickup truck driven by Louis Eckler, 67, Lawrence.
Lewis said Eckler had just turned onto County Road 458, from North 1150 Road, when the accident happened.
Neither Eckler nor his wife, who was a passenger in the truck, was injured in the accident.
Johnson was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with possible head and neck injuries.

That is definitely not a 1989, more like 1999.

Inattentive driving ... cell phone in use? texting?

Maybe it was because someone pulled out in front of him? Just because he's young doesn't mean it was his fault. Hope he's okay.

That was my thought exactly. Every time I see a texting driver or someone yacking on their phone it's either a 30 something soccer mom or a 50 year old business man (suits). Sounds to me like a 67 year old man pulled out in front of someone on a 55 mph road.

you may be right, but probably not.. texting ...

Old and slow meets young and fast. My guess is that they probably both share some blame for the accident.

Sorry, but Franklin's car had the right of way as he was driving north on 458 and Eckler turned left onto the road in front of him. Check out Franklin's skid marks! His only 17 year old problem, was not being able to evaluate an idiot driver fast enough. Your father was afraid you would drown, but I taught you to swim. Hope your injuries are minimal.

Looks as if head-to-windshield which means bad head/neck injuries, unfortunately. Was he wearing his seat and shoulder belt? Car had a driver's air bag, and if so did it deploy?
