Lawrence police use taser on uncooperative subject

June 2, 2010

Lawrence police used a taser Wednesday afternoon on a man after being called to a domestic disturbance at an east Lawrence mobile home park.

Officers were called to Brookwood Mobile Home Park, 1908 E. 19th, about 2 p.m. When they arrived, the suspect took off running.

Police Sgt. Bill Cory said the man was uncooperative and that's when officers used the taser on him.

Medical crews were called check out the suspect, who was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, which is the police department's policy whenever a taser is used.

I fully support this. They should just walk around tasering people at random around here.

I want a job making those videos. Seriously, it felt like the trailer to a Michael Bay flick.

I'm sorry, I seem to be channeling Elly Mae.

Is this what the LPD is using? If so, I'm willing to be uncooperative just to demonstrate for my friends.

I'd say it's a little early in the afternoon to be hitting the bottle, but it is a trailer court.

Cops don't have to be in shape to catch criminals who run anymore, just hit em with the tazer.

Yeah lets hope the poor b*stard doesnt die of a heart attack....

My guess is he was running for something other than the domestic disturbance call.

The headline should read "Lawrence Police Follow Protocol"- not that that's anything new, but pretty much what this story is. Imagine if KC news.. or better yet Chicago reported every time someone was tasered.

The taser is used by the lazy cops. A real cop does not need it because he has proper training on how to deal with the public.

I'm not a big fan of having the big shock.....but it's better than a bullet. Or better yet, just be cooperative.

I have found LPD officers to be (for the most part) very respectful. I have to wonder what most of would do in a situation that gets out of control..... would we use a taser?

I like the use of 'Subject' in the story title. I would rather taz my Physics class.
