Topeka Gov. Mark Parkinson on Friday said he believed the Kansas economy was on the upswing.
“I do think we are recovering,” Parkinson said.
Commercial aircraft manufacturing -- a key part of the economy -- was increasing, but the manufacture of smaller aircraft continued to struggle, he said.
Later today, Parkinson was headed to Wichita to unveil details of an agreement between the state and Bombardier Learjet to secure Wichita as the home of the Learjet aircraft.
Parkinson spoke with reporters briefly after a news conference proclaiming “Eye on Diabetes Day in Kansas,” which is aimed at increasing awareness about the link between diabetes and eye disease.
Parkinson, a Democrat, declined to predict the outcome of the Tuesday’s primaries, although he said he was hopeful that Secretary of State Chris Biggs wins his Democratic primary contest against state Sen. Chris Steineger. Parkinson appointed Biggs secretary of state in March when Republican Ron Thornburgh resigned to take a job in the private sector.
