Lawrence native sets pentathlon record

— Lawrence’s Alexa Harmon-Thomas set a meet record in winning the pentathlon Wednesday at the 2010 USATF National Junior Olympic track and field championships at Sacramento City College.

Harmon-Thomas’ 3,534 point total broke the previous mark of 3,521 points, set by Alyissa Hasan in 2001. She went on to win the national title in the high jump on Thursday with a mark of 5-5.

Harmon-Thomas will compete in the 100 and 200 hurdle prelims on Saturday.
