Henrickson tourney: The sixth-annual Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 21 at Alvamar Golf and Country Club. The four-person scramble tees off at 1 p.m. The $100 entry fee includes green fee, cart, range balls, goodie bag, drinks, lunch and dinner. Chamberlins, Selks Stand Out: John Chamberlin of Overland Park and his son Chase Chamberlin of Lawrence won the KGA’s 12th Father-Son Championship in the gross division by shooting 67-69–136 July 26-27 at Reflection Ridge Golf Club in Wichita. John Selk and son Daniel Selk of Lawrence placed third in the net division by shooting 62-66–128.

Free State Softball Camp: Free State High will host a softball camp for five weeks of Sundays beginning Aug. 22. The camp is for girls in grades 4 through 8. For information, contact FSHS coach Lee Ice at ice@sunflower.com.

Softball tryouts: Lawrence Phenix Fastpitch will hold tryouts for the upcoming season. Tryouts are Aug. 7 at Holcom Park. Times: 8:30-10 a.m. for first- and second-year 10U; 10-11:30 for first-year 12U; and 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. for first-year 14U. Older-group tryouts will be held Aug. 8 at Holcom, from 1:30-3 p.m. for first- and second-year 16U and 3-4:30 for 18-U. Please register 30 minutes before tryout. Firestix tryouts: The 14U Lawrence Firestix softball team will be holding tryouts on Aug. 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. and Aug. 7 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Broken Arrow Field No. 1. Players are welcome to come to one or both tryouts. The team is primarily looking for eighth-grade girls with 1996 or 1997 birthdays. Gantz Hole In One: Will Gantz aced the 182-yard No. 4 at Alvamar public with a 5-iron. Greg Wyatt witnessed it.

Wilkerson Hole in One: Brian Wilkerson used a pitching wedge to ace the 131-yard No. 8 hole on the Desert Mountain-Chiricahua golf course in Scottsdale, Ariz. on July 9. The shot was witnessed by David Duncan, Mike Treanor and Rich Yaekel.

Miller Cards Ace: Doug Miller hit a hole-in-one on the 168-yard No. 15 hole at Alvamar. He used a 6-iron for the ace, which was witnessed by Pat Wempe, Larry Rosdahl and Bryan Dreiling.

Jayhawk Golf Club Results: Curt Anderson shot 71 to win the net portion of the Jayhawk Golf Club on Sunday at Alvamar. Chris Petr was second at 74 and Bob Kocour third with 83. Les Brown won scratch with a 76 and was followed by Van Reichert (77) and Mike Naegele (83).

Firebird in Nationals: Free State High’s Alex Hill will be attending the ASA/USA Girls’ Class A U16 Fast Pitch National Championships with her club team, the Olathe Rockets 16 U/A. The tournament runs Aug. 1-8 in College Station, Texas.
