Flood warning expires for Douglas County

Scattered strong storms will be with us through most of the evening tonight as our low drops to 76° with a south wind between 10-20 mph. Periodic showers are possible Wednesday morning before we deal with more heat and humidity for the afternoon.

July 20, 2010, 3:37 p.m. Updated July 21, 2010, 2:12 a.m.

A flood warning for Douglas County has expired.

The warning was issued after extensive rainfall, which the National Weather Service said could cause flooding in areas of Douglas County mainly south of Lawrence.

Kansas Highway Patrol has reopened Highway 56 near the Douglas and Johnson County line after closing the road due to high water, according to emergency management officials.

Several county roads east of Baldwin City are closed as well as the 1600 block of N. 200 Rd. and the 100 block of E. 2300 Rd.

Be careful while driving, and never attempt to cross a water-covered roadway.

i think the city should have purchased the casa house and stationed it in the corner of the hobby lobby parking lot. when we get heavy rains a "small person" could run out and stand up the high water sign. this seems so much better than actually fixing the problem.

Summer is great for weather on local TV. Lots of storm warnings, and the new kids or interns doing the weather. You get to hear how towns and counties really should be pronounced:

Pottawatomie (pot-ah-wah-toe-mee) Wichita (wish-eee-tah) Onaga (oh-nah-gah) Wabaunsee (wah-bunce)

Bring on the rain!

So much for the weather heads saying this would stay north of I-70. I will never learn, they haven't it yet in the last year or better. Oh well my tomatoe plants needed it anyway.
