Crews to begin repairing Connecticut Street on Wednesday
Days are numbered for the bumpy ride along Connecticut Street, as crews line up to repair problem areas and replace damaged pavement with a fresh new driving surface.
Beginning Wednesday, contract crews hired by the city of Lawrence will start milling, patching and overlaying sections of Connecticut, from Seventh to 15th streets in eastern Lawrence.
Crews are scheduled to work from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays for the next two weeks, said Mark Thiel, assistant director of public works. Crews will close one block at a time.
“(Each) should be milled and then reopened the same day,” Thiel said.
Crews will not resurface the entire street, but only sections within each block that have been identified as problematic, Thiel said.
“We’re not pothole patching,” he said. “We’re milling the existing surface down two inches, patching any areas that are damaged, and then putting down an overlay.
“It’s a permanent repair (that should last) for seven to 10 years.”
