Cactus cruise by K.C. Express, 7-3

? The Lawrence Cactus held off the K.C. Express, 7-3, on Saturday in the Wichita State Pastime Tournament. The Cactus finished the tournament 2-2.

Tim Lewis started on the mound and went 32/3 innings for Lawrence, and Cory Delg spelled him and earned the victory with 21/3 innings of scoreless relief.

“He has really filled a tough role for us, being the middle man who often goes unnoticed,” Cactus coach Wilson Kilmer said of Delg.

Kilmer praised the defense behind the pitchers as well, citing two sparkling plays made in the outfield.

Preston Schenck made an over-the-shoulder catch deep in center field with two runners on base. Not to be outdone, Cody Jones made a running catch down the right field line.

Ryan Scott led the Lawrence offense, going 2-for-2 with two walks, three stolen bases and an RBI.

Lawrence (18-8) will play in the NBC World Series next weekend in Topeka.
