Police still waiting for toxicology reports in Oread hotel death

More than five weeks after a man fell to his death from an upper-level balcony at The Oread, 1200 Oread Ave., Lawrence police said the case is still under investigation.

“We’re waiting on toxicology reports to come back,” Lawrence police Sgt. Mike Monroe said. “We’re in a holding pattern until then.”

An electrician working at the hotel discovered the body of 25-year-old Brandon Sims on the second-floor balcony the morning of June 8.

Lawrence police have said only that they think Sims fell from an upper floor but have not indicated whether the incident was an accident; nor have they ruled out foul-play.

The coroner is not yet releasing autopsy results.

Police did not have a timeframe for when they think their investigation will be complete.
