Power restored after outage near Second Street and McDonald Drive

Thousands of Westar Energy customers lost power for about an hour and a half on Monday afternoon.

According to Westar Energy spokesman Leonard Allen, blown fuses are responsible for the outage north of Sixth Street near the West Lawrence turnpike exit.

Allen said animals got into a substation in the area, knocking out service to over 3,700 customers. To restore service, crews had to re-route power lines and replace equipment in the substation.
