— The leading Republican candidates for a U.S. Senate seat from Kansas have two debates this week in Wichita.

Republican congressmen Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt have their first event at 6:30 p.m., broadcast from KWCH, the CBS television affiliate in Wichita. Viewers with Sunflower Broadband can tune in to channel 6, which will air the debate after its 6 p.m. newscast. LJWorld.com will also stream the debate live.

The two other candidates in the Aug. 3 GOP primary also are expected to participate. They are Mound City accountant Tom Little and Overland Park attorney Robert Londerholm, who served as Kansas attorney general from 1965 to 1969.

Moran and Tiahrt will then have a one-on-one debate at noon Tuesday sponsored by Wichita's chamber of commerce, at the Hyatt Regency hotel.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The Wichita Chamber of Commerce setting may turn out to be a Koch Industries/Boeing Zoofest for Tiahrt.

See if Moran can convince anybody that he's tough on border security and illegal employment of illegal aliens. Any moderators in these debates? Anybody familiar with the illegal alien Filipino welders who built the natural gas power plant near Emporia ... causing an uproar that made Jerry disappear? Shame. Bigger shame if the press lets his claims go unchallenged. I don't know much about the other candidates, and to some extent it doesn't matter how you see the issue, it's just that Jerry Moran is cutting loose with all these false claims and no one apparently is going to refute them. Perhaps that means he is such an overwhelming favorite that no media-types dare to question him, lest they lose "access" after his ascension to the upper house. Disappointing.

There are very few civil Repubs these days. The GOBP has gotten mean.

"See if Moran can convince anybody that he's tough on border security and illegal employment of illegal aliens."

That's right. Who can be tougher than Tiahart's "One bullet, one solution" approach to immigrants?

Who is worse: immigrants or child molesters? Discuss.

Tiahrt (learn to spell his name if you're going to support him, or just cut & paste from the story) has succeeded in dragging down a formerly decent congressman into LoonyLand with him. Whatever happened to that "None of the above" proposal?
