Phenix win tournament

— The Lawrence Phenix-Fyler Under-18 softball team won the Clay Center B Round Robin Tournament with a 4-0 record on Saturday.

Shelley Prost pitched 10 innings on the day and earned two victories, while Alli New pitched eight combined innings and won the other two games. Kristen Bell provided solid defense and caught all four games for the Phenix, who improved to 15-7.

Lawrence defeated the Holton Blue Heat, 10-0 in five innings, then defeated Clay Center, 8-0 in five innings. The Phenix closed with wins against Beloit (6-2 win) and the Manhattan Rebels (10-5).

The Phenix, who scored 34 combined runs in the four games, smashed 49 total hits. They committed six errors.

Offensively, Dana Kramer went 9-for-14 with seven total runs scored; Taylor Simmons was 8-for-12 with four runs; Jamie Morgison went 8-for-13; and Sarah Hanson was 6-for-10 with three sacrifice bunts and four runs.

Randy Fyler is a great coach and it is wonderful that he is still doing so even after his daughter has finished playing. Way to go Phenix.
