Lawrence woman will stand trial on child sex abuse charges

A Douglas County judge ruled Thursday that there is enough evidence for a 33-year-old Lawrence woman to stand trial on charges stemming from the reported sexual abuse of two young girls.

Police arrested the woman and her husband in early June. The 32-year-old husband is accused of eight different crimes, including multiple counts of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.

The woman had her preliminary hearing Thursday morning in Douglas County District Court and at the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Peggy Kittel bound her over for trial on two counts of aggravated child endangerment and one count of lewd and lascivious behavior.

The alleged abuse is reported to have taken place between June 2008 and May 2010.

The victims are now 8 and 10.

A trial date has not yet been set.

Her husband’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 17.

Both suspects remain in custody at Douglas County Jail.
