Federal loan allows Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative to add hundreds of customers

? An electric cooperative in north-central Kansas has been awarded a $9.3 million federal loan.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the loan will allow the Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative to build 61 miles of new distribution lines and upgrade 12 miles of exiting lines.

The new lines and upgrades will allow the Mankato-based co-op to serve an additional 680 electric customers.

USDA says it’s providing loans or loan guarantees for projects in 20 states to build 4,300 miles of new lines and upgrade nearly 3,000 miles of existing lines.
