Wichita ? The 2010 Kansas wheat harvest is nearing an end.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reports that 84 percent of the wheat acreage had been cut before weekend rain shut down the harvest. Usually by this time, 80 percent is cut statewide.

Most of the remaining wheat is in the state’s northwest corner, where the agency says about 69 percent of the crop has yet to be cut.

In its weekly crop report Tuesday, the agency also said the rain helped alleviate stress on other Kansas crops.

Corn condition was rated as 11 percent excellent, 60 percent good and 24 percent fair. Just 5 percent was rated in poor to very poor condition.
