Police searching for car after strong-arm robbery

July 3, 2010, 4:47 a.m. Updated July 3, 2010, 5:15 a.m.

Police are searching for a silver Dodge Magnum with occupants who were reportedly involved in a strong-arm robbery.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, a police officer met the victim at Ninth and Vermont streets about 4:30 a.m. The victim, a 34-year-old man, said he was robbed some time between 2 a.m. and 4:31 a.m. He said the robbers used physical force to take an unknown amount of cash.

The Dodge Magnum is described as having oversize chrome rims. The victim gave varying descriptions of the car's occupants, ranging from two black men and one white woman to four black men and one white woman.

No one was injured in the incident.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of the car, you can call Crimestoppers at 843-TIPS.

Obviously these people were drunk enough that they don't know what really happened.

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not really sure.

OK! I know a couple of you caught this, The police met him at 4:30 am. He was robbed between 2 am and 4:30 am! He's not sure of how many occupants were in the car. Call me skeptical but I really don't think this guy was robbed at all. Probably lost all his money and trying to come up with an alibi for the significant other. Can anyone say "FALSE POLICE REPORT"? LOL

silver dodge with big rims? and 2-4 black guys with guns? sounds like topeka, or a fabrication. what's the difference?

Although Topeka has its less than desirable citizens...and some have committed crimes in Lawrence and other surrounding communities. It may be time for a few of the Lawrence citizens to remove the blinders.

Lawrence is not "small town" USA anymore.

Don't forget the "unknown amount of cash". So he doesn't even know how much money he had.

LadyJ 6 years ago

And yet his discription of the car is quite specific.

what easyliving said. between the time the bar closed and the police showing up. survey says...... mind altering substances

Oh come on,

If it were a night manager, would they have waited several hours to report it? And, be unable to remember how much money they had lost?

Sharon Roullins 6 years ago

I'm sorry but it sounds as if the alleged victim "lost" his rent/bill money and made up this story so his significant other wouldn't be the wiser. I'm just saying.

mshaden: Sounds like a good guess to me. Should be interesting to see if any more details come out.

Hey, I haven't seen a car like that driven by any of our Top City thug types, so it must be one of y'alls own. :P

Maybe the alleged victim is homeless and thinks the Community will give him some cash donations to replace his wine supply.

maybe it is ok to blame everything on the victim, Maybe he did it himself. He should have no rights. Let thugs roam the streets looking for any vulnerable person. They are asking for it. If you aren't in a group of armed and vicious people you deserve what happens to you. Let us not use taxpayers money to protect anyone stupid enough not to run in a gang.

Waiting for the CC people to weigh in...

A responsible CCH carrying probably won't be walking around downtown at that time unless it's necessary. If one did find him/herself at the time, would hopefully be traveling in a group. If not that, he/she would hopefully be aware enough to avoid the situation at all. Use of a firearm would be a last resort, even as a deterrent. Though I can't be sure from the little information we're given, it sounds like a little common sense could have avoided this situation all together.

walking around downtown between 2 and 4:30 a.m. , drunk out of your skull, carrying large amounts of cash = begging to be robbed.

---don't know what time it were neither 'cuz!

... four black men ... two black men ... I mean what's the dif, a couple of black men among friends anyway?

at least the guy is certain about his own age! though I wonder if the PD verified it, lol!

I also wondered: the money actually went for sexual services and this is a great way to excuse the sudden loss of such funds ...

if this dude wants to lose some money this way, he's welcome!

Nothing was said about the amount of cash taken, remember the victim couldn't remember how much was he had taken. I bet it was closer to between 75 cents and two dollars.

We need to follow the example of our former hippy city commission and be sensitive towards the people of Topeka. Remember when the kook commission wrote a letter of apology to the people of Topeka because the crimes in Lawrence were being committed by people from Topeka and they plastered it on a $10,000 ad in the Topeka Capital Journal? That's when Lawrence went down hill and it hasn't recovered since.

Don't remember that, might have been gone at that time, but I did find this during my search. Wonder if this guy is still with the fire department.
