Four-star running back prospect Brandon Bourbon has switched his commitment from Stanford to Kansas University and is expected sign with the Jayhawks on Wednesday’s National Signing Day, according to Rivals.com.

Bourbon, from Potosi, Mo., had been committed to Stanford for six months, but changed his mind after taking an official visit to Lawrence and speaking with several Kansas coaches, including new running backs coach Reggie Mitchell.

“Coach Mitchell is my guy; we are pretty tight,” Bourbon told Rivals. “I talked to him all the time. I also talked with coach Long, and I built a good relationship with the coaches. It wasn’t a pressure situation. I was just talking with them and getting to know them.”

The addition of Bourbon represents a welcome development for a program that had lost two four-star recruits since the departure of former Kansas coach Mark Mangino, including the recent defection of Hutchinson defensive end Geneo Grissom.

Bourbon, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, is rated as the nation’s No. 29 running back and received offers from Notre Dame, Missouri, Kansas State and BYU.

The Jayhawks now have 18 known commitments in the Class of 2010.
