25 years ago: Chamber opposes moving KU-Missouri game to Arrowhead Stadium

Architects were instructed to “flesh out” one of nine plans for Kansas University’s proposed science and technology library. However, Jim Ranz, KU dean of libraries and committee chairman, said the 20-member committee had not yet selected a library plan to formally submit for approval by university administrators.

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce board of directors unanimously adopted a resolution opposing any move of the Kansas-Missouri football game to Kansas City and planned to telephone and send letters to that effect to KU chancellor Gene Budig and athletic director Monte Johnson. The board’s action followed new rumors of a movement to get the game in KC’s Arrowhead Stadium the coming fall.

The University Corporate and Research Park was living up to the first part of its name. Officials of Oread Laboratories, a private bioanalysis corporation with Kansas University connections, announced plans to build a 15,000-square-foot facility at the park. Takeru Higuchi headed Oread Labs. Kohlman Systems Research was the original tenant.
