KDHE investigating recycling center

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is investigating a Lawrence recycling center, after several cars caught on fire there Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the Bargain Center, 1146 Haskell Ave., just before 5 p.m. Wednesday where six vehicles in the salvage yard were on fire.

KDHE officials were on the scene Thursday, investigating complaints that the business is “not properly managing auto fluids.”

A spokeswoman for the KDHE said the investigation is on-going.
