Veritas basketball splits

? The Veritas Christian boys basketball team outscored Tri-City Christians by 26 in the first quarter and went on to win the game 56-33 on Tuesday.

Coach Gary Hammer said it was the best quarter the Eagles have played this season.

Elijah Penny scored 14 points, and Ethan Scott scored 13 to lead Veritas (7-5).

The Eagles also committed 20 turnovers and scored zero points in the fourth quarter.

“We played a good first half and kind of a sloppy second half,” Hammer said.

Tri-City girls 47, Veritas 41

Kayli Farley scored 11 points and Ellen Phillips added 10 for the Veritas girls basketball team.

“We came out just a little cold in the third quarter, but just couldn’t get over the hump,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “For a really young team, we’re finally playing the way we thought we can.”
