Lawrence Memorial Hospital reported an unexpected drop in patient use over the past year. Net operating income had dropped sharply from $108,218 in 1968 to only $5,487 in 1969. Total patient days declined from 46,572 to 44,102. The trustees were also concerned about the big number and large amounts of unpaid bills at LMH.

Kansas University chancellor Laurence Chalmers went before the Kansas Legislature to appeal for badly needed new KU funding for the coming year.

KU tackle Jim Bailey was the first Jayhawk to go in the pro football draft. He was chosen in the second round by the Baltimore Colts.
