Governor rejects recommendation to close Kansas Neurological Institute

Gov. Mark Parkinson says he will not accept the Closure and Realignment Commission’s recommendation to close the Kansas Neurological Institute.

In a letter to the commission, Parkinson said it is currently not feasible to close KNI and consolidate all residents at Parsons. He expanded on his thoughts in a lengthy blog post on his Web site.

Parkinson said he is issuing an executive order to begin a phased reduction of populations at KNI and Parsons with the goal of closing one institution in approximately three or four years.
