Watson leading in Hawaii
Kaupulehu, Hawaii ? Tom Watson birdied six holes on the back nine for a 6-under 66 and a two-stroke lead Saturday over senior newcomer Fred Couples after the second round of the Champions Tour’s season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship.
The 60-year-old Watson, coming off a win with Jack Nicklaus in the Champions Skins at Kaanapali, overcame a rocky start and finished with nine birdies and three bogeys for a 15-under 129 total. Couples, who shot a bogey-free 66, is making his first official Champions Tour start on a sponsors exemption to the winners-only event.
Tom Lehman had a 67 to join Michael Allen (66) at 12 under.

Prugh leads Hope by one
La Quinta, Calif. — Alex Prugh surged ahead in the Bob Hope Classic when the sun finally came out Saturday, shooting a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Bubba Watson and fellow tour rookie Martin Flores.

Murray wins in Australia
Melbourne, Australia — Andy Murray overcame big-serving John Isner, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2, today to set up a possible Australian Open quarterfinal match against defending champion Rafael Nadal.
Nadia Petrova also advanced with another upset win, beating third-ranked Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, to reach the quarters.

Orioles, Tejada reach deal
Baltimore — The Baltimore Orioles and Miguel Tejada are headed toward a reunion. Tejada and the Orioles have agreed on a one-year, $6 million contract, pending a physical, the infielder confirmed Saturday.
Stairs, Padres agree
San Diego — Outfielder Matt Stairs and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a minor-league deal.
