Water main work reduces parking

City crews last week started a water main replacement project in southeast Lawrence that might temporarily take away some street parking in the area.

Jeanette Klamm, the city’s utilities programs manager, said crews began installing a distribution line to replace an old one.

Streets affected include Clare Road and Miller Drive, south of 19th Street and northwest of Kennedy School.

Klamm said the utilities department has requested no parking signs when crews are working in a certain area because the city doesn’t want to have to worry about moving or towing cars.

The project is scheduled to last eight to 10 weeks.
