The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Council voted 5-1 against a sanitary landfill on land acquired for the North Lawrence Flood Control Levee a mile and a half west of Midland on U.S. 24.

Kansas State University football assistant Dick Steinberg was forced to resign due to a recruiting violation involving halfback Vince O’Neil from New Jersey. O’Neil later transferred to Kansas University and played football for the Jayhawks. After KU, O’Neil joined the Lawrence Police Department.
