The University Bridge Club met for their delayed annual Christmas Party Jan. 14 at Alvamar Country Club. A total of 12 tables with 48 players gathered for the event, with hosts Rhetta Jo Noever and Jo Anne Kready. 

Blue winners were Mike Phenix, first; Alice Akin, second; Mary Kanous, third; Ray Ikenberry, fourth; Sadie Deaton, fifth; John Stark, sixth; and Marty Hartman and Dale Kring tied in seventh.

Pink winners were Carol Smith, first; Florence McNicoll, second; Susan Phenix, third; Wanda Kring, fourth; Myrna Ikenberry, fifth; Rhetta Jo Noever, sixth; and Cathy Waller, seventh.

UBC also announces results of it Jan. 16 meeting, with hosts Tom and Cathy Waller.

Blue winners were Bonnie Haney, first; Al Smith, second; John Golden, third; Carole Depew, fourth; and Willie Stoltenberg, fifth.

Pink winners were Jane Golden, first; Bebe Huxtable, second; Hazel Stellmacher, third; Janet Dunn, fourth; and Virginia Williams, fifth.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Jan. 6 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Craig Huneke and Jeremy Martin, first in A, B and C; Chris Lane and Chuck Hedges, second in A and B; Mark Osborn and Gary Joyce, third in A and B; and Jack Flickinger and Jean Khatib, second in C.

East-West winners were Paul Heitzman and David Piro, first in A; Barbara McCorkle and Judy Bevan, second in A, and first in B and C; Virginia Seaver and Madelyn Jenks, third in A; Mona Bell and Eldon Herd, second in B; and Patricia Lechtenberg and Bobby Patton, second in C.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Jan. 8 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Larry Weatherholt and Steven Vossler, first in A; Kent McCullough and Grant Sutton, second in A; Jeremy Martin and Craig Huneke, third in A, and first in B and C; and Chris Lane and Carol Ball, second in B.

East-West winners were Elizabeth Jankord and partner, first in A; Lois Clark and Mark Osborn, second in A and first in B; Shirley Reese and Yvonne Hedges, third in A and second in B; and Jolene Andersen and Jean Khatib, first in C. 

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Jan. 13 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Adelaide Nyquist and Bill Allen, first in A, B and C; John Oxley and Klee Zaricky, second in A; Lester Dalton and Nita Scales, third in A and second in B; Catherine Blumenfeld and Grant Sutton, fourth in A and third in B; and Gary Joyce and Ann Thompson, second in C.

East-West winners were David Piro and Paul Heitzman, first in A; Virginia Seaver and Shirley Reese, second in A; Florine Creek and Madelyn Jenks, third in A and second in B; Eldon Herd and Shari Krentzel, fourth in A and second in B; Angie Davidson and Dick Shaffer, third in B and first in C; and Virginia Johnston and Jan O’Connor, second in C.

The Thursday Morning Duplicate Mentor Club’s game on Jan. 14 utilized the Howell movement and was directed by Lester Dalton. Winners were Virginia Seaver and Barbara McCorkle, first; Angie Davidson and Shirley Reese, second; Jean Khatib and Debbie Bettinger, third; and Chris Lane and Becky Mullins tied in fourth with Lester Dalton and Ann Thompson.

North-South winners were Steven Vossler and Vince Nordberg, first in A; Lester Dalton and Mary Fenlon, second in A; Virginia Seaver and Klee Zaricky, third in A; Nita Scales and Jolene Andersen, fourth in A, and first in B and C; John Fittell and Bill Allen, second in B and C; and Florine Creek and Marilyn Martin, third in B.

East-West winners were Robert Dailey and Bill Remington, first in A, B and C; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, second in A; Carol Ball and Jan O’Connor, third in A, and second in B and C; Don Daugherty and Harry Talley, fourth in A, and third in B and C; and Yvonne Hedges and Sally Taylor, fourth in B.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Jan. 18 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Steven Vossler and Larry Weatherholt, first in A; Eldon Herd and Emily Foster, second in A and first in B; Craig Huneke and Virginia Seaver, third in A; and Earle Core and Albert Ballard, second in B and first in C.

East-West winners were Peter Petillo and David Piro, first in A; James Masilamani and Donna Johnson, second in A; and Ann Thompson and Gary Joyce, third in A, and first in B and C.

The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Jan. 16 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. Mary Lynn Stuart gave a program about heirloom gardening. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 20 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. After a brief meeting, members will carpool for the celebration of George Washington’s Birthday at Ritz Charles in Overland Park. All interested members should send money to Nancy Jaeger by Feb. 1.
