Ames, Iowa ? Hilton Coliseum has hardly been like a Hilton hotel for Kansas University’s women’s basketball team over the years.

The Jayhawks have found little comfort in the home of Iowa State basketball, dropping eight of their last nine games there.

“It’s always loud,” KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said, “and the crowd really gets into it when you let them hit a three.”

And as many threes as the Cyclones attempt — they’re always among the Big 12 leaders — the odds of the crowd erupting are enhanced.

“It’s always a tough to play in Ames,” said KU senior Danielle McCray, who has never won there. KU’s lone win in the last decade was a 57-56 overtime victory in 2006.

Kansas must tackle that Hilton din again tonight. Tipoff will be 7 p.m. for the non-televised contest.

KU is coming off a 72-59 victory over Missouri on Sunday in Allen Fieldhouse, a game notable for Henrickson’s first two lineup changes of the season.

She inserted senior LaChelda Jacobs at point guard in place of the injured Angel Goodrich, who is out for the season with a torn ACL, and freshman Carolyn Davis for Krysten Boogaard.

Both will be in the starting lineup again, even though Jacobs was spelled for the last nine minutes of the MU game by Sade Morris who moved over from a wing.

“I can see (using Morris) when we have a lead and if we feel we need more offense,” Henrickson said, “but I don’t anticipate staying that way all season.”

Meanwhile, the KU coach likes having the 6-foot-2 Davis and the 6-5 Boogaard both available to provide meaningful inside minutes. The two combined for 21 points and seven boards against Mizzou.

“I really like having two bigs who can help us,” Henrickson said. “We haven’t had that quality depth before.”

Kansas (11-5 overall, 1-2 Big 12) will travel to Oklahoma Saturday. The next home game will be a week from tonight against Colorado.
