Haskell women come back

Maria Parker scored 27 to lead Haskell Indian Nations University to a 78-57 women’s basketball victory against College of St. Mary on Friday at Coffin Complex.

Despite trailing the Omaha school 41-34 at halftime, Haskell outscored St. Mary 44-16 in the second half. The Indians forced 22 turnovers and had 13 steals.

“In the first half, they shot lights out,” Haskell coach Phil Homeratha said of the Flames, who shot 50 percent from the field.

But in the second half, St. Mary was just 5 of 25 from the field and 4 of 14 from three-point range.

Justina George added 15 for Haskell, which shot 48 percent from the field despite a poor showing in the first half.

Next for No. 19-ranked Haskell is a game Friday at College of the Ozarks.

“It’s going to be one of our bigger games,” Homeratha said.
