Lynne Sauer, Lawrence, graduated summa cum laude, earning a bachelor’s degree in education from the Honors College at Missouri State University. The fall 2009 commencement was Dec. 18. Sauer achieved the scholastic honor, by earning a grade-point average between 3.90 to 4.0.

Letha Wulfkuhle, Baldwin City, will celebrate her 90th birthday with family and friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Church of Christ, 201 N. Mich., in Lawrence.

Art McCune and his family will celebrate his 90th birthday on Jan. 23 with a card shower. Cards and birthday wishes can be sent to McCune at 1618 Powers, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Three hundred students participated in the Kansas Music Teachers Association State Honors Auditions Nov. 7 at Kansas University. Winning first place in the Grade 7-8 division was Alita Joseph, Lawrence, a student of Carole Ross. Naomi Kurata, a Lawrence student of Jean Drumm, was the runner-up in the same division. In addition, Adrienne Barclay, Lawrence, placed first in the freshmen-sophomore category of the collegiate auditions for the second year in a row. Barclay, a former student of Carol Cook, now studies with Trilla Lyerla at Baker University.

Other Lawrence students earning honorable mention were Mason Kelso and Kelsey Jian, both students of Jung Spooner; and Smitha Ramesch, a student of Janet Hart Johnson.

Elisha and Joel Bishop, Olathe, announce the birth of their son, Hadyn Cole Bishop, on Dec. 15, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center.

Hadyn has a brother, Kai, 1.

His maternal grandparents are Glen and Nancy White, Lawrence; his paternal grandparents are Jim and Judy Bishop, Perry; and his great-grandmother is Fern Schnorr, Coffeyville.

Mary Bennett and Lisa Pearse, both of Lawrence, were recently inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society at Washburn University.

Bennett, a graduate of Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Ault. 

Pearse, a graduate of Lawrence High School, is the daughter of Wayne and Kathy Pearse.
