— An oversight board voted unanimously Friday to close 13 of Arizona’s state parks in response to budget cuts, leaving two-thirds of the parks shut in the most aggressive cuts to such facilities in the nation.

The Arizona State Parks Board is closing some of the state’s iconic Old West landmarks, including the Tombstone Courthouse in one of the West’s most storied towns, and the Yuma Territorial Prison, which housed hundreds of Old West outlaws and was portrayed in the film “3:10 to Yuma.”

The decision also closes parks such as Red Rock State Park near Sedona that draw tens of thousands of tourists a year.

Arizona enjoys one of most right wing legislatures in the nation and an extremist right wing governor. This is what you get with the new Republican party.

In Arizona, where there are only about two moderate Republicans left, they have been working hard to dismantle the public schools, destroy social services, and now get rid of all that ridiculous parks and rec fluff.

This is also the vision of the majority of Kansas' Republican legislators. Fortunately we still have a our Democrats and about 18 moderate Republicans left in the House and a Democratic Governor.

Watch out for 2011 when we foolishly elect a right wing extremist as governor and moderate Republicans are ousted in their primaries.

May God have mercy on us.

Parks? Parks are part of the leftist/communistic/socialist agenda to destroy private property. All property should be privately owned and if people want to see red rocks in Sedona they can pay to do so. The republican agenda will have this solved soon.

it is sad indeed that the parks have to be closed due to budget woes ... and Scott, are you serious or being a smart arse? Don't you realize that closing the parks will only leave them open and vulnerable to pot growers? Is that what the repubs really want? guess so ...

An absurd position, Hwarangdo, don't you think? Too bad it is so routinely pumped in the minds of the public by those who controlled the major media organs in this country.
