How has your current job as an AmeriCorps employee affected your fashion budget? The salary for all AmeriCorps employees is modest — my income is adjusted each paycheck to be equivalent with the current hourly wage at poverty level. Thus, the majority of my income is reserved for rent and living expenses. If I need a new piece of clothing — gloves or a coat, for example — I shop at second hand stores or vintage boutiques.

What were you doing when scouted: I was on my way to work — 7:55 a.m.

How would you describe your style? “Vintage Remix.” I wear pieces that can be integrated into both a work wardrobe and a daily wardrobe.

Favorite fashion trends: I look for accessories and attire that have a history. I like to think of who might have owned an item beforehand. Honestly, I feel quite guilty when I buy things that have not been previously used. There is just so much clothing out there with individuality instilled from a past life.

Least favorite fashion trends: I’m not big on the new “Hammer Pants.” Wearing pants with a crotch down to the knees is not flattering on any body type.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence: I want more antique malls with high-quality vintage clothing, furniture and retro kitchenware. Clothing should be the main emphasis, but I like fun knick-knacks and lifestyle accessories, too.

What would you like to see less of in Lawrence: I want to see fewer monochromatic outfits — more incorporation of colorful accessories or sophisticated color combinations. Outfits ought to maintain a classic look overall but highlight each individual and their personal sense of style.

Who are your fashion influences? My friends. They all draw from different people and environments — from New York to Toronto — but their personalities always persevere. When we come together our vastly different styles create a balanced, intriguing mix.

People say I look like: I look like my mom, Jody Anderson, and my sister, Jenna McGovern.

Tell us a secret: I always carry moisturizer with me in my purse!
