July trial scheduled in lawsuit over Cat Tracker fatal accident in 2006

A Douglas County judge on Tuesday scheduled a July jury trial in the fatal accident involving the Kansas State Cat Tracker fan bus in November 2006.

John Green, of Shawnee, was killed, and Chris Orr, of Salina, was severely injured while they were riding through Lawrence on top of the modified bus, ahead of the rival football game between Kansas State and Kansas University.

The men were standing atop the bus when their heads hit an overpass near 17th and Iowa streets.

Green’s wife and Orr have filed lawsuits against the owners and the driver of the Cat Tracker, claiming they were negligent for allowing people to ride on the upper deck of the vehicle.

The Cat Tracker is not affiliated with Kansas State University.

District Judge Robert Fairchild scheduled a trial for the first two full weeks in July. No criminal charges were filed in the case.
