The Lawrence High girls basketball team will look to exact a bit of revenge during tonight’s matchup with Free State, which begins at 5:30 at LHS and represents the first game of a girls/boys doubleheader.

In December, the Firebirds (12-7) squeaked out a 37-34 victory over the Lions, though they made just eight field goals in what was an especially sloppy game for both teams.

Led by Kansas State-bound Chantay Caron, as well as center Ashli Hill and guard Lynn Robinson, Free State has established itself as the city’s top team so far this season, but LHS (8-11) enters the game having won three of its last four, and a victory tonight would ensure a home game in next week’s Class 6A sub-state.

“They’re an outstanding team, and they’re capable of scoring a lot of points,” said Free State coach Bryan Duncan. “We’re going to try to play our game and do what we do on offense and defense.”

Can Robinson find her shooting touch?

Lynn Robinson, a sophomore guard on the Free State girls team, has averaged 14 points in the Firebirds’ last two victories, providing a nice supplement to seniors Chantay Caron and Ashli Hill. Her ability to hit shots — she was 5-of-8 from the field for 14 points in a win over Shawnee Mission North on Tuesday — tonight could be key for Free State.
