25 years ago: Student falls out of fraternity window
In Washington, Kansas legislators joined in a Grain Belt lobbying campaign that moved to Capitol Hill to convince Congress to offer additional assistance to financially strapped farmers. Early on, federal responses were favorable but many actions would be needed to provide substantial relief, the Kansas spokespeople insisted.
The FAA revocation of a Capital Air Service commuter service to Kansas City’s airport from here had the city studying whether to seek a new commuter service. Details on the permits revocation had not been made public. There was doubt a new commuter airline could be found.
Depth, breadth and frequency of local potholes after bitter winter weather were causing great concern and considerable expense. Four tons of asphalt had been needed to fill one “hole” at 23rd and Naismith.
A Kansas University student was in fair condition after falling out a second-story window of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house. The student, 20 had fallen some 20 feet. Evidence of alcohol abuse was strong, police said.
