25 years ago: Commuter flights halted

Commuter fights from Lawrence Municipal Airport to Kansas City International were halted after the operating certificate of a commuter airline was revoked by the FAA. The order was against Capital Air Service of Manhattan.

Efforts were under way to establish a local Kansas Women’s Substance Abuse Service here and there were hopes to open a halfway house by the coming June.

About 100 members of Kansas University’s College Assembly met to discuss proposals to stiffen general education requirements for liberal art students.

Big pro-KU crowds gathered early outside Allen Fieldhouse to get good seats for the Kansas-Oklahoma basketball game. Fans found the wait worthwhile at KU beat OU by an 82-76 score.

Local primary elections were around the corner and if form held, the top winners in the primary would also prevail in the April general voting.
