40 years ago: Chancellor asked to inquire into faculty member’s possible protesting in Chicago

“I do not perceive it as a rebuke,” said Kansas University chancellor Laurence Chalmers of Kansas Board of Regents instructions that he inquire about the involvement of a faculty member in a Chicago Seven protest. Chalmers said the action indicated the willingness of the regents to leave institutional operations up to the appointed executives, such as Chalmers.
