Machete suspect guilty

? A man accused of threatening police officers with a machete has been convicted of one of the five charges he had faced.

Reno County jurors deliberated about five hours Friday before finding Bradley Verstraete, 38, guilty of battering a Hutchinson police officer. But the jurors could not agree on the four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Officers testified that they used a Taser to subdue Verstraete on Feb. 22, 2008, who was wielding a machete in the basement of a home. They took him to an area hospital. That’s where authorities allege Verstraete bit an officers, leading to the battery charge.
