Discounted tickets will be available at three Kansas University sporting events this spring for fans who donate food to local food pantries.

Anyone who brings a nonperishable food item may attend the following events for $3 per ticket.

• KU vs. Iowa State women’s basketball game, 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, at Allen Fieldhouse.

• KU vs. Iowa baseball game, 1 p.m., Sunday, March 7, at Hoglund Ballpark.

• KU vs. Wichita State softball games, 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, at Arrocha Ballpark.

Food donations support the Just Food Douglas County Food Bank’s five partners: the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation, Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Ballard Center and Penn House, all in Lawrence.

Is mens' basketball too important to be concerned with hungry people in the community?

What a stupid comment Bilbo. Do you have hair on your feet too?

Don't let me prevent you from bringing food for the pantries, but the women's basketball game on Feb. 25 is one of the "Dollar Days," and you can get a ticket in general admission for (you guessed it) $1.

Romans832, can't everyone bring a noperishable food item anyway and still get in for $1? Surely you have some food in your pantry that you can spare...

Agreed, agilla. That was what I meant when I prefaced my comment with, "Don't let me prevent you from bringing food for the pantries." I hope, as you, that people will bring food, and get an added bonus of getting in for $1, when they were expecting to have to pay $3. Maybe folks could bring an extra $2 in food, above what they would have normally contributed for admission.
