Administrators from the Kansas University Medical Center urged a Kansas Board of Regents committee to press for state funds to renovate animal care facilities at the medical center. More than $1 million in work was needed so the animal facilities could be accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care.

A Nevada judge issued an order allowing a Las Vegas firm under investigation by officials in at least five states to continue operations as a supplier of culture-growing kits that were processed by a Lawrence company Culture Farms, Inc. The cultures were designed to be used in cosmetics.

Local area farmers continued to complain about federal and state funding proposals they said would be “devastating” to their livelihoods.

Douglas County commissioners unanimously approved a permit for a communications tower southeast of Lawrence and rezoning for a housing development west of Lawrence.
