Two Lawrence men were arrested after a family altercation early Saturday morning in the 3700 block of Brush Creek Drive.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, officers were dispatched to a residence in the area about 11:20 p.m. Friday. An uncle and nephew, 49 and 22 years old, living in the residence had gotten involved in a verbal altercation after the elder of the two made a request the younger took exception to.

Hadl said the verbal altercation eventually came to a challenge that the younger family member agreed to take. The altercation became physical and the uncle swung a bat at his nephew, though he didn't make contact. The nephew punched his uncle in the face during the altercation.

Family members helped to break up the fight and both the uncle and nephew were arrested.

The 49-year-old was arrested on charges of aggravated assault for his role in the incident and the 22-year-old was arrested on charges of domestic battery.

How this article should have been written.

"Red Neck Man Dancing Lands Men in The Hole"

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl a man known locally as cousin Billy Bob asked his nephew to bring him a beer. His nephew told him to get his own damn beer and he wasnt waiting on his big fat lazy butt. Billy Bob then angrily replied "I am going to whip you real good boy". That would have been the end of it but the nephew broke all rules of trailer park etiquitte and told his uncle that since he was too weak to even jiggle the handle on the toilet to make it work right, he didnt think he could whip him.

At this point the man dancing became serious and thus the wrong arm of the law was summoned.

Please note that my report is about as informative as the JW report because in both cases neither suspect is named nor is the exact location of this dispute described.

You really can just sit at home on a sleepless night, make crap up completely off the top of your head and be about as useful a journalist as some one making good money at the JW!

LOL, anon!

Do you already have a job? You should apply at LJW. I liked your story better.

---LJWorld, don't end a sentence with a preposition! Doing that just gets confusion words into!

Anon, good job. funny though its okay to joke about rednecks, but if we made stereotype ref about other group we'd be yelled at: "hey nephew, grab me sum'a dat watermelon!"

This article is completely incomplete: what was the request to which the nephew took exception?
"I say Rodney, you get another cup of Earl Gray tea for me and be a good chap!"

""hey dude! I've seen enough of WWE, I want to watch Great Performances on PBS now!"

sad to say, we probably will never know what that request was.

Not a family dinner until we get thrown out of the applebees--loose attribution to Will Ferrell (sp?). My family loves that movie.

our neighbors have averaged one or two fights like this a YEAR for the last 8 years and it's never been in the paper.

BTW, what does it take to get a house declared a disorderly nuisance? Why won't the D.A. take action? If the police are at a house 12 times a year making felony arrests, why can't the disorderly nuisance provision kick in automatically and force the owners to evict the troublesome people? Or if it's the owners themselves that are the problem, fine them thousands until they change their ways. If they won't change, then the property is forfeited.

I knew Autie would show up and clear up all the confusion.
