— Kansas University’s softball team started the 2010 season and the the tenure of new coach Megan Smith with a pair of losses Friday in the Marriott Hobby Invite.

Kansas in Game One could not quiet a sizzling Louisville offense as the Jayhawks fell, 10-2, to the No. 21-ranked Cardinals.

Louisville collected five runs off five hits in the first inning.

KU didn’t respond until the third inning, when Liz Kocon hit a sacrifice fly to score Alex Jones.

Amanda Jobe plated Jones with a single that bounced off the first baseman's glove in the fifth inning for the Jayhawks’ other run.

In the second game, Kansas fell, 8-0, to Sam Houston State.

The Jayhawks stranded runners in every inning but one.

Kansas will face Sam Houston State again at 3 p.m. today and Houston at 7 tonight.

B.R.U.T.A.L. looks like ku softball is one of those tune up games for good teams at the beginning of the season. Just like when ku mens basketball plays teams like central arkansas to get its confidence. Sad sad sad that Kansas University is scheduled for tune up games against a school like Sam Houston State.
