Two taken to hospital after Wednesday morning altercation that began at McDonald’s

Two people were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries suffered during a Wednesday morning altercation.

The incident occurred about 1:45 a.m. at The Woods apartment complex, 630 Mich.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Ted Bordman, a 21-year-old man was struck in the back with an undetermined type of weapon. A 20-year-old man was reportedly stabbed, suffering a laceration to the face and a contusion during the incident. Both victims were transported by ambulance to LMH for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police said the incident originally began at the McDonald’s drive-through near Sixth and Michigan streets. Several men occupying two vehicles engaged in a verbal altercation. The two vehicles went to the parking lot of the apartment complex, where the attack occurred.

The driver of one of the vehicles reportedly struck the other vehicle intentionally at least twice. The instigating vehicle was located, and the driver, a 27-year-old Lawrence man, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and criminal damage. Bordman said police were still attempting to locate the other vehicle.

Bordman said the suspects were said to be driving a white mid-90s passenger vehicle.
