Two people were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries suffered during a Wednesday morning altercation.

The incident occurred about 1:45 a.m. at The Woods apartment complex, 630 Mich.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Ted Bordman, a 21-year-old man was struck in the back with an undetermined type of weapon. A 20-year-old man was reportedly stabbed, suffering a laceration to the face and a contusion during the incident. Both victims were transported by ambulance to LMH for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police said the incident originally began at the McDonald’s drive-through near Sixth and Michigan streets. Several men occupying two vehicles engaged in a verbal altercation. The two vehicles went to the parking lot of the apartment complex, where the attack occurred.

The driver of one of the vehicles reportedly struck the other vehicle intentionally at least twice. The instigating vehicle was located, and the driver, a 27-year-old Lawrence man, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and criminal damage. Bordman said police were still attempting to locate the other vehicle.

Bordman said the suspects were said to be driving a white mid-90s passenger vehicle.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Lawrence Crime Stoppers hot line, 843-TIPS (8477).

Names? No minors or sex crimes why didn't LJW post names?

Stuart Evans 8 years, 4 months ago

I'm going to guess alcohol, again.

and what is this? "The two vehicles followed one another to the parking lot of the apartment complex". Unless they pulled over and let the other one lead for a bit; only one vehicle led and one followed.

We don't name those accused of crimes until they've been formally charged by the courts. That's a pretty standard practice for most news outlets. We do make exceptions to this policy on occasions, but not often.

lawrence and stabbings?

what gives? another good reason for concealed carry.

you might be at a drive in getting your whopper on, then suddenly some punk says your momma so ugly, she have to sneak up on a toilet just to use it.

then, it's game on.

The LJWorld never prints names unless it benefits them. They are very selective in what they print too. Also Jonathan Kealing is wrong when he states it is standard with most news media outlets that they never print the names unless the court files charges. You can verify this by checking the Court/Police/Fire sections of KCStar, Topeka Capital, or The Manhattan Mercury or about any newspaper in this state.

The LJWorld needs to start printing the local news and print all the story including the names of those arrested and or issued notices to appear. They might be surprised in that their circulation/subscriptions would probably double!!

I'm not sure why you feel so entitled to know the names of suspects in news articles about crime. Yes that information is public record, but the media is not required by law to disclose it. If you have to know, check the DGSO website or call the LPD. Personally I respect the Lawrence Journal World for not publishing names until there is a conviction.

I have said it before on this website and I will say it again, if you were involved in an incident and were not actually guilty of wrong-doing would you want your name splashed in the papers? Often people only read or hear what they want, they may choose not to associate the fact that later there is a not guilty verdict passed down or all charges dropped and the person's name will only be associated with the initial charge. I'm going to guess you wish they would print victim names as well.

I bet Bill Self was pissed when he had to get out of bed and tell the basketball players to go home.

Ricky_Vaughn 8 years, 4 months ago

Bill Self doesn't have to do that kind of crap. Joe Dooley and his other lackeys handle that stuff.

Monica Miller 8 years, 4 months ago

And, actually, skinny, some people appreciate that they don't past names until there is a conviction. I was once accused of a crime and my name and pic were all over Topeka and KC news. . .LJ was the one media outlet that respected the 'innocent until proven guilty'. Once I was found not guilty, it's not like Topeka and KC did another broadcast saying they apologized for jumping the gun! I think defamation is caused by releasing details too early. And let's face it, you only want to know their name to be nosy, not because it's going to make the story better!

Has anyone else noticed that this stuff only occurs in the trashy areas of town?

And the trashy places to eat/drink/etc?

and the "E" in Eride obviously stands for "elitist".

Ricky_Vaughn 8 years, 4 months ago

@ Eride It likely happened because late night fast food draws late night drinkers looking to get their munch on.

How do you know they aren't from west Lawrence?

If I was a criminal or had a criminal history I wouldn't want my name and picture in the paper either!!

The Lawrence Journal World only prints the news it wants you to read unlike the rest of the newspapers in this state that prints all the news.

The LJWorld is a liberal newspaper and they can keep it. They have one of the lowest circulation/customers base of all the newspapers in the state.

What are you new here? A lot of bars kick people out at 1:30 and then they go where,....hmmm... to all the 24 hour drive-thrus in town. Of course it was alcohol related, or no wait it was probably K2' NOT. If this state was serious about being concerned for young people, they would stop wasting their time with nonsense like making K2 illegal, not that I care one way or the other really, but it just doesn't make sense, when alcohol related problems are the norm here.

Interesting that LJW refuses to list the names of criminals but has no problem at all listing the names of people suffering through the hardship of bankruptcy, listed by choice of LJ World.

Jonathan Kealing 8 years, 4 months ago

People who have filed for bankruptcy have done so in a court of law. When someone is charged with a crime in a court of law, we name those folks as well. To name someone who hasn't been charged would be like naming every person who visits a bankruptcy attorney. When — if— charges are filed in this case, we'll absolutely name them.

Jonathan Kealing Online editor

factstraight 8 years, 4 months ago

CrystalKU- they are not required to print the names of people filing bankruptcy but they choose too, don't you think that that is a humiliating experience? why have decency for one group but not the other, and no I have not ever filed for bankruptcy, i just think it's terrible that they list them when they don't have too.

"the object approaching the Angusburger is your hand ..."
I blame the Angusburger, obviously.
some dude bit hisself and blamed the other driver for "distractin' him...that driver also had an angusburger, was distracted, ran into driver1.

so, I say, officers, hawl 'em in and grill 'em!

I'm sure the sauce is outa them by now.

factstraight 8 years, 4 months ago

Thanks for clarifying Jonathan but I still think it's terrible that LJW chooses to list the names when the people are going through enough already, especially in todays tough times.

to anyone with comments about the mcdonalds situation, i was in the white mid 90's vehical as it was being rammed three times, i also happen to be a female that had nothing to do with the actual fight i was just watching, and further more it had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol but if someone would check in to racial issues in lawrence you might have something
