40 years ago: 2nd man placed on probation following assault of officer

A second 20-year-old man was placed on probation following an assault on a local police officer. There had been several such instances of late and the source of the animosity was being sought by officials.

Many politicians said they doubted a Journal-World report that Kansas Gov. Bob Docking would seek a third two-year term in office. His father, George, also had served as Kansas governor. Both were amazingly successful Democrats in a heavily Republican state.
